Commission me

framed painting by Richard Porte

Creating a painting of your family, friends, special places or important events gives you or your loved ones a unique, personal gift that will enhance any room and provide enjoyment for years to come.

My approach is to understand what you are looking for and make the commissioning process as straightforward as possible. There are a few questions you will want to consider, which I will cover below, but it’s always easier to discuss things directly – so please get in touch.

“That was so easy – and I can’t believe how fantastic our painting is!”

“it’s so evocative but also a stunning work of art in it’s own right”

Subject and photo references

I usually work from a number of reference photographs, which I ideally take myself. If the subject is within easy travelling distance (i.e. near London or Salzburg), I may be able to arrange a free photo session. Otherwise, I can give you some guidance and work from photos that you provide.

Before I begin work I will provide you with a mock-up or study so you will have a good idea what to expect.

Size and finishing

It’s a good idea to consider where you want to hang your painting. Is it for your home office, a hallway or above a mantlepiece? The subject and the dimensions of the wall will suggest the ideal size for the painting.

I work in acrylics, which are lightfast and very durable. The final varnish can be matt, silk of gloss.  Paintings are unframed and can be displayed in this manner or in a frame. (If required, I can arrange for your painting to be framed at cost).

Prices and payment

Prices vary depending on the size and complexity of the painting . Larger paintings with more complex subjects, such as facial portraits, require more time and materials, and so will be more expensive. If you would like a quotation, please don’t hesitate get in touch.

Payment is in the form of an initial non-refundable 25% deposit with the balance due upon delivery of the finished work.

Lead times and delivery

Please give me at least 3 months’ notice from agreement and receipt of deposit to delivery of the finished painting. Shorter lead times can sometimes be arranged but please discuss this with me.

Delivery is via parcel courier to anywhere in Europe.
